More omega-3s in yogurt
General Mills announces July 24 it extended the addition of Martek Biosciences life'sDHA to its Yoplait Kids Yogurt Drink. The Minneapolis-based firm announced in January it planned to add the omega-3 product to its yogurt in a cup product (1"The Tan Sheet" Jan. 22, 2007, In Brief). The yogurt drink comes in four flavors: strawberry, strawberry banana, mixed berry and banana. Each 3.1 oz bottle contains 16 mg of DHA per serving. The 6-pack retails for $2.99. Separately, Ocean Nutrition Canada Limited announces July 23 its MEG-3 omega-3 product will now be included in Danone's Danino drinkable yogurt line. The product is already featured in other Danone products. Each 93 ml. bottle contains 20 mg of the omega-3 product. Neptune Technologies & Bioressources announces June 19 a partnership with Yoplait to develop new functional dairy products for worldwide commercialization. Yoplait will launch dairy products containing Neptune Krill Oil in "strategically chosen countries followed by a worldwide rollout," Neptune says. The firm will supply Yoplait with NKO and will receive an upfront fee as well as milestone payments and distribution royalties, Neptune states. Martek Biosciences announces Feb. 2 its omega-3 product life'sDHA is featured in White Waves' Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA soy milk. The product is currently available in half-gallon sizes at supermarkets and natural food stores nationwide, according to the release. "Silk Plus Omega-3 DHA offers calcium, vitamin D and vitamin A, plus heart healthy soy protein and 32 mg per serving of life'sDHA," the Columbia, Md.-based firm says. The product "illustrates how DHA is moving into the mainstream food and beverage market," Martek Biosciences CEO Steve Dubin says.
