Xenergy touts difference: Xyience acknowledges it is launching its energy drink in a crowded and rapidly growing market, but the firm says its product provides what the competition is "lacking when it comes to taste and nutrition." Calorie-free Xenergy provides both rapid and long-lasting energy by adding glucoronolactone to boost the effects of the caffeine in the ingredients, says Las Vegas-based Xyience, which also markets nutritional bars and supplements. The drink also includes B vitamins and metabolism boosters. Xyience says Dec. 11 it is launching Xenergy in retail stores in states in the west, mid-west and southeast. Forbes Medi-Tech's Reducol has been deemed "substantially equivalent" for seven new food groups by European regulatory authorities, the firm announces March 2. The cholesterol-lowering ingredient was approved by the European Union Standing Commission on the Food Chain & Animal Health for use in margarine-type products, milk-based products and soy drinks.
