Industry relief efforts for Katrina

Executive Summary

As of Sept. 9, member companies of the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America donated $52.2 mil. in aid to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, the organization reports. Among the contributions are a $5 mil. cash donation from Johnson & Johnson; $2.5 mil. from Amgen; $2 mil. from Pfizer; and $1 mil. or more from firms including Abbott, AstraZeneca, Merck and Wyeth. Nearly all of the companies participating in relief efforts also donated supplies and set up gift-matching programs. On the regulatory side, HHS opened the Strategic National Stockpile in order to supply vaccines and antibiotics. F-D-C Reports' parent company Reed Elsevier is making a $150,000 cash contribution...
