The independent scientific advisory committee, the Committee on Toxicity (COT), reviewed the latest scientific evidence and concluded kava kava in food would "continue to pose a risk to health," the release says. FSA banned kava kava in foods starting in 2003 after COT concluded it caused liver damage.
