The planned acquisition of Nature's Life by Nutraceutical International is expected to "provide many operational, distribution and marketing synergies," according to the Park City, Utah-based dietary supplement firm. Under a purchase agreement announced May 30, Nutraceutical International will acquire all of the stock of Orange County, Calif.-based M.K. Health Food Distributors, dba Nature's Life. The deal is expected to close June 30 pending "certain contingencies." The acquisition "provides us with increased store penetration in key markets," Nutraceutical said, noting the Nature's Life brand of over 400 SKUs has "strong regional placement" in health and natural food stores in the Western U.S. Products in the line include Super Green Pro 96 and Super Blue Pro 96 soy protein powders, Soft Gelatin Multiple, 600 Prostate Maintain and Golden Flax Seed Oil, as well as various vitamins, minerals and supplements. The acquisition will represent the biggest purchase by Nutraeutical International in about three years. The firm acquired Thompson Nutritional Products, which markets approximately 135 vitamin, mineral and other health care SKUs, from Rexall Sundown in June 2000 (1 (Also see "Nutraceutical International" - Pink Sheet, 5 Jun, 2000.), In Brief). With annual sales of $111 mil., Nutraceutical International markets the Solaray , KAL , NaturalMax , VegLife , Premier One , Sunny Green and Action Labs brands, among others. The company maintains it manufactures and/or distributes "one of the broadest branded product lines in the industry," with over 2,600 SKUs, including more than 600 SKUs exclusively sold internationally. The firm also operates retail outlets The Real Food Company and Thom's Natural Foods and manufactures bulk materials under the trade names Monarch Nutritional Laboratories and Great Basin Botanicals. Sales in the company's second quarter (ended March 31) rose 10% to $30.6 mil. and net income totaled $3.5 mil. |
