Legislation limiting retail sales of pseudoephedrine-containing OTCs to 9 g per purchase introduced July 19 by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Tim Hutchinson (R-Ark.) and Herb Kohl (D-Wisc.). Provision "to close the 'blister pack loophole' would make it harder for methamphetamine manufacturers to obtain large quantities" of precursor ephedrine, Hutchinson says in same-day 1press release announcing bill. S 2763 "will still allow consumers to purchase weeks or months worth of cold medicine at once, but will prevent large-scale purchases by meth dealers," Feinstein adds. Bill would provide $125.5 mil. to fund cleanup of meth labs, train law enforcement agents to prosecute meth offenses. Rep.
