PhRMA courts Kennedy
Executive Summary
Sen. Kennedy is scheduled to appear at the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America annual meeting in Naples, Fla., March 31. Two of PhRMA's biotech members, Amgen and Genzyme, are working with the Massachusetts Democrat on a revised Medicare drug benefit proposal (1"The Pink Sheet" Feb. 19, p. 19). The PhRMA meeting will also include an appearance by one of the industry's strongest allies among Senate Democrats, Louisiana's John Breaux. HHS Secretary Thompson has been invited to speak March 31, but has not confirmed. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), now at the American Enterprise Institute, rounds out the Hill portion of the meeting
