CFSAN program priorities

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Center solicits comments toward development of its 2001 program priorities in a June 23 Federal Register notice. The format will be similar to the 2000 workplan, which divides CFSAN's activities into "A" and "B" list items under five program areas: premarket review of food ingredients; nutrition, health claims and labeling; dietary supplements; chemical and other contaminants; and cosmetics. About half of CFSAN's budget is devoted to the Food Safety Initiative, with the rest divided among other areas. Among CFSAN's 2000 "A"-list goals are ephedra regulation, supplement enforcement streamlining, supplement GMPs and AE monitoring, and Pearson v. Shalala implementation (1"The Tan Sheet" Feb. 14, p. 12)
