Seventeen of 27 saw palmetto products examined by ConsumerLab.com meet the online independent test firm's quality standards. The other randomly selected products failed due to labeling disclosing low fatty acid levels (five products), incomplete dosage information on labeling (one product) and insufficient fatty acid and/or sterol levels as measured by gas chromatographic analysis (four products). "At least 85% of the weight of clinical quality saw palmetto products are expected to be attributable to specific fatty acids and sterols," the company notes.
