Executive Summary
NIH Office of Dietary Supplements to hold a bioavailability workshop Jan. 5-6 in Bethesda, Md., ODS Acting Director Rebecca Costello, PhD, announces at the CHPA's dietary supplement symposium Sept. 14. Workshop topics will include identifying active ingredients, the impact of formulation on bioavailability, physiological determinants of bioavailability, current approaches for standardizing methodologies and methods for communicating understanding of bioavailability to consumers. In its FY 1999 appropriations, Congress called for ODS research into the bioavailability of dietary supplements (1"The Tan Sheet" Oct. 19, 1998, p. 3)
