Some OTC Drug Categories Find Their Sales Niche In Independent Pharmacies

Executive Summary

External pain relief ointments and gels showed 23.5% growth in units sold in US independent pharmacies between 2015 and 2017, ahead of the category's 9% growth in chain pharmacies, according to Hamacher Resource Group. Noting niche OTC product categories sell particularly well in independent outlets, Hamacher VP Dave Wendland says the 22,000-strong independent pharmacy channel still presents opportunities for OTC marketers.
