In future, pharmaceutical products marketed in the EU would have to carry a unique identifier (UI) consisting of a randomised serialisation number that contains the manufacturer product code and pack identification number, according to stakeholder feedback to a European Commission consultation on developing a UI and verification system for drugs1,2.
