China life sciences lawyer joins Covington & Burling

Chen Shaoyu, a former assistant chief counsel at the US Food and Drug Administration among other things, has joined Covington & Burling LLP as managing director of the international law firm's China food and drug practice.
Mr Chen, who will be based in Beijing, will advise pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies about policies from China's State Food and Drug Administration and the US FDA, as well as on legal issues pertaining to such topics as clinical trials, promotion and competition.
In addition to having served as assistant chief counsel at the FDA's Office of Chief Counsel, Mr Chen has also been senior counsel at Amgen and chief compliance counsel for GE Healthcare (China).
