Moving on after PIM: reaping the benefits of structured content management

This article was originally published in SRA

Executive Summary

The European Medicines Agency terminated its product information management (PIM) initiative for establishing an electronic exchange of product information between applicants and competent authorities on 28 March1-3. However, organisations that have devoted themselves to the programme or invested and planned around its timelines will still be able to reap the benefits of a technical foundation on which PIM was based to improve their internal efficiency: structured content management (SCM). Organisations that were waiting for PIM timelines to solidify before investing in PIM or SCM may now move forward with SCM based on internal standards.
