Norman Fost has been selected as the at-large member of the steering committee of the US Clinical Trials Transformation Initiative, the public-private partnership aimed at modernising the way clinical trials are conducted that was launched by the Food and Drug Administration and Duke University in 2007.
Dr Fost is a professor of paediatrics and of medical history and bioethics at the University of Wisconsin, and has studied, taught and written about ethical and regulatory issues relating to clinical research. Since 1984, he has been chair of the University of Wisconsin hospital ethics committee.
Dr Fost, notes the CTTI, will bring “a unique and valuable perspective” to the efforts of the initiative to improve the quality and efficiency of clinical trials.
