German Biotechnology industry organisation launched

A new biotechnology industry association has been officially launched by leading German companies including MediGene and MorphoSys1. Bio Deutschland was established to support the development of the biotechnology industry in Germany and to protect its interests. The association intends to lobby politicians and ultimately influence legislation affecting the industry. The newly elected founding chairman of the association, Horst Domdey, says it is intended that Bio Deutschland will become the collective voice of German biotechnology companies. Mr Domdey is assisting the association to meet legal requirements and will be replaced by the first elected board at the beginning of December 2004.
