Russia to put more focus on early detection and treatment of cancer

Over the next four years, Russia intends to reduce cancer mortality rates by 4% - a target that is hoped to be achieved thanks to a new nationwide programme, revealed recently by the country’s ministry of health. From the start of the programme – scheduled for 2009 – until its conclusion in 2012, Russia intends to spend RUB28bn (€759.8m) on updating healthcare services and equipment in order to improve cancer detection and treatment conditions.
