Salonpas gel targets pain precisely
Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical Co. Inc.says the analgesic combination in Salonpas Deep Relieving Gel is indicated for temporary relief of arthritis pain, backaches and muscle soreness. The topical product, launched July 22, contains the active ingredients camphor 3.1%, menthol 10% and methyl salicylate 15%, all in a quick-absorbing, non-greasy formulation. Compared to OTC oral analgesics, topicals such as Deep Relieving Gel deliver medication more precisely to the site of pain, with little medication absorbed into the bloodstream, Florham Park, N.J.-based Hisamitsu America says. Salonpas Deep Relieving Gel is sold in a 2.75-ounce tube for a suggested $9.99.

Twinlab adds algal protein to CleanSeries
Twinlab Corp. formulates Veggie Protein, the latest addition to its CleanSeries sports nutrition line, specifically for vegetarian athletes with microalgae-derived protein provided by Solazyme Inc. In an Aug. 6 release, Solazyme said the Veggie Protein launch is an indicator of market demand for its algal protein ingredient, which also is rich in fiber, healthy lipids and micronutrients. Twinlab initially debuted the CleanSeries brand in early 2013, saying the products meet high nutrition standards and are certified free of banned substances (Also see "New Products In Brief" - Pink Sheet, 25 Mar, 2013.).
ZeaONE expands Kemin eye health line
Kemin Industries Inc. launches ZeaONE, a form of the zeaxanthin carotenoid derived from marigold hybrids and marketed for use in eye health supplements. Unlike the zeaxanthin esters found in fruits and vegetables, the free-form zeaxanthin in ZeaONE does not need to be de-esterified by the body’s enzymes, Kemin said Aug. 8. The Des Moines, Iowa, ingredient developer, which already offers FloraGLO lutein for eye health, licensed the use of marigold hybrids for zeaxanthin production from Ball Horticultural Co. (Also see "In Brief" - Pink Sheet, 9 Jul, 2012.).

Solgar, a Leonia, N.J.-based subsidiary of [NBTY Inc.], introduced Folate 1,000 mcg on July 25 and sells the product in 60- and 120-tablet bottles for a suggested $15.98 and $29.98, respectively.
