Pharmavite touts Voots for tots

The maker of Nature Made supplements offers VootsVeggie-Fruit Tarts, its first children’s brand, featuring a blend of 11 fruits, vegetables and vitamin C dried and crushed into chewable tablets. [Pharmavite LLC] said Oct. 22 the formulation of apples, cranberries, prunes, sweet potatoes, zucchinis and others offers an antioxidant boost to children ages four and older, in addition to their daily multivitamin regimen. Pharmavite also includes dried cane syrup, erythritol, mannitol and sorbitol sweeteners in mixed berry-flavored Voots. The Northridge, Calif., company sells Voots in 14-serving cartons for a suggested $9.99.

Herbalife Formula 1 brand raises the bar

The multi-level marketer Nov. 9 introduces the Formula 1 Express Meal Bar in cookies ‘n cream flavor, offering 15 grams of protein, 5 grams of dietary fiber and 21 vitamins and minerals in each 200-calorie, 1.98-ounce bar. Los Angeles-based Herbalife Ltd. suggests a retail price of $25.55 for a seven-bar carton.

Vitacost all in for whole food supplements

The Vitacost brand expands into whole food supplements made from non-genetically modified fruits, vegetables, herbs and superfoods, and without chemical fillers, binders or stearates. Online retailer [Vitacost.com Inc.] announced Nov. 12 the availability of five initial stock-keeping units under its house brand: men’s and women’s multivitamins, B-complex capsules, organic wheat grass powder and yaeyama chlorella tablets. Products in the line sell for between $13.25 and $29.99; additional SKUs are expected in 2013. The Boca Raton, Fla., firm aims to launch 175 Vitacost brand products in 2012 (Also see "GNC Leads Supplement Retailers In House Brand Growth" - Pink Sheet, 17 Sep, 2012.).

Ensure Complete covers nutritional bases

Abbott Laboratories Inc. promotes Ensure Complete, its latest adult nutrition shake launched Oct. 30, to support bone, heart, immune system and muscle health. The Abbott Park, Ill., firm’s Revigor ingredient, along with 13 grams of protein, aid the maintenance of lean muscle mass, while more than 600 mg of plant-based omega-3s help support heart health, Abbott said. Additionally, Ensure Complete has calcium and vitamin D for bone support and 3 grams of prebiotic fiber for immune health. A 16-count case of 8-fluid-ounce bottles, in chocolate and vanilla varieties, is priced at $41.99 on Abbott’s online store.

Energy patch claims no crash

Rocasuba Inc.’sSpot On Energy offers “homeopathic ingredients” including caffeine – about a cup of coffee’s worth – tea extract and zinc, to be absorbed through the skin via an adhesive patch. The company said Nov. 14 its patch product uses “passive diffusion technology” to give users an energy boost in smaller doses, thus bypassing the “crash” that comes with energy drinks. Spot On Energy is sold in CVS, Walgreens and Family Dollar stores at $3.49 for a pack of two patches, Mashpee, Mass.-based Rocasuba said.

MegaFood multis take on healthy aging

[FoodState Inc.], the maker of MegaFood supplements, introduces a pair of multivitamin formulas for men and women older than 55, expanding the firm’s nutritional product line to cover a consumer’s lifespan. The Women Over 55 product includes broccoli, green tea and kale for breast health, plus schisandra berry and blueberry to promote longevity, FoodState said Nov. 1. The Derry, N.H.-based whole food supplement firm said it formulates Men Over 55 with pomegranate, pumpkin seed and tomato for prostate health, as well as eleuthero root for energy. A 60-tablet bottle of each SKU sells for a suggested $31.

Cardioviva probiotic launch on calendar

Announced earlier this year as a breakthrough probiotic strain shown to lower LDL-cholesterol, Cardioviva from Montreal-based Micropharma Ltd. finally will hit U.S. and Canadian markets in early 2013 (Also see "New Products In Brief" - Pink Sheet, 6 Aug, 2012.). Micropharma said Nov. 5 it revealed new research on the strain, Lactobacillus reuteri NCIMB 30242, at an American Heart Association scientific sessions briefing, touting Cardioviva as a possible next-generation adjunct therapy for lipid management.
