Perrigo offers gluten-free formulations

At retailers' and consumers' request, Perrigo becomes the first manufacturer to provide clients with labels intended to help consumers more clearly identify products with gluten-free formulations. The labels will be for a variety of OTCs, including pain relievers, cold and allergy products and antacids, the Allegan, Mich., private labeler says Dec. 7. "Calls relating to gluten content rank second only to product usage," a company spokesman said. He explained retailers beginning in January can place the "gluten-free" statement or icon anywhere on the label to let consumers know the product has less than 20 parts of gluten per million. Perrigo already offers labels that indicate gluten-free formulations for more than 200 dietary supplements
