Wyeth builds formula factory in China

Wyeth has begun a $280 million project to build what will be Asia's largest infant formula factory after receiving approval from China's National Development and Reform Commission, the company announces March 10. The facility will be located in Suzhou, China, and is slated for completion by the end of 2010. With an initial output of 90 million pounds (about 40,000 tons) of high-quality baby milk powder formula, the plant is expected to have a maximum production capacity of up to 80,000 tons, primarily supplying the local market. Madison, N.J.-based Wyeth says at full capacity the plant is expected to employ about 500 people.
