Conflict of interest concerns about joint ventures between in-store health clinics and pharmacy chains prompt American Medical Association's to call for federal and state agencies to investigate these arrangements. "If the visit in the clinic most often results in the writing of prescription, and if the people who are running the clinics are also filling the prescriptions, there is, on the face of it, an inherent conflict of interest," AMA board member Dr. Peter Carmel told "The Tan Sheet." In-store clinic trade group Convenient Care Association said it was "surprised" by AMA's position because many physicians have accepted these clinics as part of the solution to improve the "broken health care system"...
