The National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine announces Nov. 7 Director Stephen E. Straus, M.D., stepped down from his leadership of NCCAM for health reasons. According to the Center, Straus will become Senior Adviser to National Institutes of Health Director Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D. Under Straus' leadership, CAM research at NIH grew threefold, according to the center. "Dr. Straus led the evolution of CAM science beyond the advocacy and skepticism and polarization it once engendered to earn legitimacy as a research area," a release says. Zerhouni named Ruth L.
