J&J: The launch of reformulated Tylenol upper respiratory products by McNeil Consumer & Specialty Pharmaceuticals contributed in part to a 5.9% increase in U.S. consumer sales to $1.13 bil. during the third quarter when compared to the prior-year period, the firm states Oct. 17. Worldwide Consumer sales were $2.5 bil., an increase of 10.1% over the prior year. Net income for the quarter rose to $2.76 bil. from $2.54 bil. in the year-ago period. J&J expects to finalize the acquisition of Pfizer's consumer unit in the latter half of December, CFO Bob Derretta said during a same-day call with analysts.
