Executive Summary
"Fish oil supplementation may represent a potentially beneficial nonpharmacologic intervention for asthmatic subjects" with exercise-induced asthma, a small study in the January issue of Chest finds. The randomized, double-blind crossover study evaluated 16 asthma patients with documented exercise-induced asthma. Patients received either 3.2 g EPA and 2 g DHA or placebo daily for three weeks, then served as their own controls after a two-week washout period. At initial screening and at the end of each three-week treatment, pulmonary function was assessed before and during exercise while running on a treadmill.
