On May 31, F-D-C Reports introduced its newest online daily publication, Research Policy Alert. The publication, available online at 1 ResearchPolicyAlert.com, merges two prior F-D-C products: "The Blue Sheet," a weekly source for health policy and biomedical research news since 1957, and Washington Fax, a daily policy resource for the scientific community founded in 1988. F-D-C had purchased Washington Fax from its founder, Bradie Metheny, in September 1999. Research Policy Alert will have expanded coverage of technology transfer issues and several new features, as well as the news and analysis of emerging issues in science policy that were found in "The Blue Sheet" and Washington Fax. Areas of coverage, for example, include budget and appropriations for NIH and other grantmaking agencies, research funding, grantmaking policies, research oversight, bioethics, bioterrorism, conflict of interest, Congressional actions and public access. Among the added features is a "Point of View" column with regular articles from leaders in the scientific community. The inaugural issue of Research Policy Alert, for example, contains an article by Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation's Howard Bremer addressing proposed reforms to the U.S. patent system. Research Policy Alert also will provide regular "Policy in Perspective" articles from Bradie Metheny, who has been active in the scientific community for the last 30 years. Metheny's experience includes serving as coordinator of the Delegation for Biomedical Research, a group of eminent scientists and Nobel Prize winners. In the interest of providing a forum for scientific dialogue, Research Policy Alert will have an electronic mechanism for subscribers to submit editorials and commentaries on articles for potential publication. Research Policy Alert is the latest addition to F-D-C Reports' suite of products and publications for the healthcare and scientific communities. One of the more notable recent launches was "The Pink Sheet" DAILY, a daily service covering news relevant to the pharmaceutical industry that launched February 2004. |
