Novartis is facing a lawsuit filed by 12 women alleging workplace discrimination; the amended case was filed in Manhattan federal court Feb. 17. "Novartis' predominantly male managers hold female employees...to stricter standards than male employees, and thus, female employees often receive lower performance appraisals than males for performing at the same levels," the complaint contends. Several women were "contacted by male supervisors and given work to do while out on family, medical liability and maternity leave, in violation of Novartis' policies," adds law firm Sanford, Wittels & Heisler (Washington, D.C.).
