Executive Summary
People with certain genetic variants "may experience significantly smaller reductions in cholesterol when treated with pravastatin," Daniel Chasman, PhD, Harvard Medical School, et al., report in the Journal of the American Medical Association June 16. The authors analyzed DNA of 1,536 individuals who took pravastatin 40 mg for 24 weeks and examined genetic variation "for associations with changes in lipid levels." While Chasman et al. say further study is needed, they note the report provides "strong clinical evidence that there may be promise in the concept of 'personalized medicine' and the use of genetic screening to target certain therapies"...
