Chattem settles PPA suit

Consumer products firm will pay $3 mil. settlement plus $500,000 "for certain fees and expenses" to Jennifer Villarreal, who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke "after allegedly ingesting Dexatrim containing PPA," Chattem says May 7. Case was scheduled for trial on May 19 in Brazoria County, Tex. district court. Chattem "will be fully released from any further liability in the case" and the settlement "will be fully funded" by firm's product liability insurance coverage and thus should not impact results of operations, Chattem says.
