Executive Summary

Cranberry & diabetes: Cranberry supplementation "may have value for diabetics," although further research is warranted, according to a randomized, double-blind study presented at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology meeting in New Orleans April 20-24. Belinda Chambers, University of Maine, et al., found insulin and glucose levels were significantly lower at week 12 in adults under 50 supplemented with cranberry than in placebo group at week six. Researchers suggest "more research on dosage and in patients with worse glycemic control is needed." Study recruited 27 adults with type-2 diabetes; fasting blood analyses were conducted at baseline, six, 12 weeks. Subjects took six .5 g capsules daily containing spray-dried cranberry juice (equal to a glass of cranberry juice cocktail) or placebo...
