Iron supplements may reduce dry cough associated with ACEIs, Korean researchers report in August Hypertension. Nineteen patients enrolled in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study were given 256 mg ferrous sulfate tablet or placebo each morning; subjects recorded results in cough diary for two-week observation and four-week treatment periods. Kyung Pyo Hong, MD, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Seoul, et al., found significant reduction in cough severity for iron group, while cough severity in placebo arm remained steady.
