Analgesic increasingly being used by Americans to treat and prevent hypertension, recent Ipsos PharmTrends report shows. Consumer purchases of aspirin for maintenance of heart health have grown 30% since 1998, with baby boomers (ages 35-54) driving growth, study says. Ipsos finds 12% increase in number of adults treating and controlling hypertension with either Rx or OTC drugs during period; over 90% of buyers use prescriptions for hypertension treatment, 18% purchase aspirin either in conjunction with Rx therapy or alone. More than three quarters of adults purchasing aspirin for hypertension prevention/treatment do so on doctor's recommendation.
