Executive Summary
CFSAN's Office of Premarket Approval renamed Office of Food Additive Safety, reorganized into units structured by application type, effective June 18. Major operational review divisions are food and color additive petitions; biotechnology and GRAS notices; food contact substance notifications; chemistry research and environmental review. Each division encompasses consumer safety officers, review scientists, including toxicologists and chemists. OFAS Director Alan Rulis, PhD, says reorganization should increase efficiency, responsiveness to pending applications and provide more easily identifiable points of contact to agency review teams and project managers
