Executive Summary
Second quarter net sales jump 34.8% to $24.1 mil., the Chatsworth, Calif. supplements marketer announces Aug. 10; the company recorded a net loss of $2.4 mil. in the quarter. The loss of a large private label customer and an 83% hike in sales and marketing expenditures to $9.9 mil. contributed to the loss, Natrol says. The firm's Prolab sports nutrition division, acquired last year, posted sales of $6 mil. Natrol had earlier characterized Prolab's performance as "weak," saying it would be refocusing the subsidiary toward everyday exercisers (1"The Tan Sheet" March 6, p. 5)
