Chromium picolinate/biotin study

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Chromium picolinate and biotin combined demonstrate a positive effect on glucose uptake in human skeletal muscle culture, William Cefalu, MD, University of Vermont, reported at the Experimental Biology 2000 meeting of the Federation of American Studies for Experimental Biology in San Diego April 15-18. The combination evinces a greater effect than either nutrient alone. Chromium picolinate 10 ng/mL and biotin 50 pmol use resulted in a 43% increase in glucose uptake over that demonstrated by insulin alone. Ambi division Nutrition 21, maker of the test material Chromax, notes the results show potential for the product as an adjunct to standard therapies in the management of diabetes. The study was funded by Ambi and NIH
