The combination of the avobenzone sunscreen ingredient and "superantioxidant" AGR has been shown to inhibit the effects of sunlight-induced free radical activity through clinical tests conducted by Beiersdorf. AGR was derived from natural sources during an eight-year R&D period. Studies conducted by the company found that the sunscreen "minimizes the occurrence and severity of sun-related skin irritations such as sun bumps and rashes" when used three days prior to first sun exposure, Beiersdorf claims. Such sun-caused inflammations occur in 15% of the population, particularly in women and children, according to the company. Daily Sun Defense is the first traditional sunscreen to be sold under the 70 year-old Eucerin brand. The lotion also is the brand's first product to contain Beiersdorf's patented AGR technology. Daily Sun Defense is bowing in mass market outlets now. A 6 oz. bottle retails for $8.99. Targeted to women ages 25 and older and families, the non-irritating, fragrance-free lotion also can be used as a daily moisturizer, the company noted. "With no greasy feel and moisturizers that are quickly absorbed into the skin, Eucerin Daily Sun Defense is not just a simple sunscreen or summer sun product," Beiersdorf said. In an effort to expand its popularity to consumers beyond Eucerin's reputation among dermatologists, physicians and pediatricians, Beiersdorf will promote Daily Sun Defense in one-page ads breaking in May beauty magazines. Eucerin's complete seven-SKU line of therapeutic skin care products for the face, hands and body includes Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Creme, Protective Moisture Lotion SPF 25 and Renewal Alpha-Hydroxy SPF 15. The most recent addition to the brand, Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, debuted in October. |
