Executive Summary
Sales for the second quarter ended Nov. 30 increased almost 5% to $87.4 mil. Mass market sales were up 31.5% to $40.1 mil., while international sales rose 39.6% to $31 mil. For the first six months of FY 2000, sales were $177.3 mil., up 17.3% from the year-ago period. Weider has continued its SKU-downsizing program and is close to its ultimate goal of 450 to 550 remaining SKUs. The Salt Lake City-based firm expects to introduce approximately 25 new products and brand extensions toward the end of FY 2000, including sports nutritionals, beverages and Pain Free product line extensions. In addition, Marta Draper, PhD, has been named to the newly created position of senior VP-technology, overseeing the company's research, new product development and quality and regulatory programs
