German manufacturer of Kwai garlic supplement plans to launch two new products in U.S. health food and mass market outlets in October - Cynara-SL artichoke extract and Sedonium valerian extract, the company said at the recent National Nutritional Foods Association Marketplace trade show in Las Vegas. Cynara-SL, an extract of Globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus) leaves, has been "clinically proven to help maintain a healthy liver and digestive system," labeling states. The product provides "nutritional support when you eat and drink too much," the package says. Sedonium, "clinically proven to help promote restful sleep," contains 300 mg valerian root extract. "Take two at bed time. Awake refreshed and alert," labeling claims. Consumer and trade print ads are slated for the fourth quarter. Both products, available in 30-tablet blister packs, carry the FDA disclaimer required under the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act.
