Executive Summary

Spun off as a separate subsidiary of retailer Vitamin Shoppe Industries. The firm's new status will allow it to take greater advantage of financing opportunities available to Internet companies. The firm has no plans to hold an initial public offering at this time. Kathryn Creech has been named president and CEO of the new subsidiary. Creech formerly was general manager of the Hearst Corporation's Internet HomeArts Network. Vitaminshoppe.com was launched in April 1998; a companion "informational" Web site, Vitaminbuzz.com, was launched in February ("The Tan Sheet" Feb. 8, p. 5). Vitaminshoppe.com is said to have had first quarter 1999 revenues "in excess of $2 mil."
