Nature Made CalBurst

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Pharmavite FSI ran in June 6 Sunday newspapers with coupon for the chewy calcium supplement. Ads in Cooking Light and Prevention depict a heart-shaped candy box filled with chocolate and cherry "soft chew" calcium pieces. "This is calcium?" the ad says, noting each "morsel" contains 500 mg of calcium. Pharmavite is conducting mail sampling and will display coupons in some retail locations. The product sells for about $6 for six 10-packs in mass market outlets ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 18, p. 10). CalBurst employs Fuisz' Shearform technology. Rival chewy calcium supplement Viactiv, from Bristol-Myers Squibb's Mead Johnson subsidiary, is priced between $6.69-$8 per 60-count package and was launched in January ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 25, p. 25)
