Shipping the first purchase order of its ribose product through Hormel Foods. Minneapolis, Minn.-based Bioenergy announced Hormel's Specialty Products' Division would handle marketing, sales and distribution of the ingredient last August ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 17, 1998, In Brief). The ingredient will be used in nutritional supplements produced by Castle Rock, Colo.-based Natural Balance; talks with certain wholesalers are under way. Print ads in certain specialty journals will begin appearing this summer. Bioenergy describes ribose as a "sugar molecule used by the body to rebuild and restore energy in heart and skeletal muscle"
