Executive Summary
American Academy of Dermatology introduces public service campaign on the dangers of skin cancer. Sixty-, 30- and 20-second PSAs feature a skin cancer survivor who lost his nose to the disease. One ad, "Nose Protection," recommends, "Avoid midday sun. Cover up. Use sunscreen." The other, "Nose Detection," urges "Examine your skin regularly" and "See your dermatologist." The PSAs were sent to 925 TV stations. The effort includes print ads as well. AAD additionally is running the "KNOW Skin Cancer: Cover Up" skin cancer awareness program aimed at golfers. PSAs starring golf pro Hale Irwin are appearing on the Golf Channel; the effort also involves videos, print ads, posters and other materials.
