Executive Summary
Brigham Young University researchers exposed HT-29 human colon adenocarcinoma cells to 4 mM vitamin E, 7 mM 13-cis-retinoic acid and 100 mM ascorbic acid alone and in combination for 72 hours. Cells treated individually grew at only 50%-80% of the rate of untreated cells, while those treated in combination grew at only 25% of the control cell's rate. Treated cells also exhibited "indicators of apoptosis," or cell death. The researchers note further study on antioxidants' prohibitory effects on colon cancer cell growth needs to be conducted
