Executive Summary

John Troup to head of Nutrition R&D, worldwide, effective in January. Troup, who is working in Novartis' Nyon, Switzerland location, had been GNC's director of Nutrition and Scientific Affairs since 1996, after serving as a senior research scientist at Pfizer and director of sports medicine and science for the U.S. Olympic swimming team. Novartis named former Pharmacia & Upjohn Consumer Healthcare North America President Michael Valentino head of the company's Medical Nutrition division in January ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 18, p. 8). Novartis announced in August it would merge its nutrition and self-medication units into a Consumer Health division ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 31, 1998, p. 10). GNC has not named Troup's successor
