Executive Summary
To take another look at its informational monographs on botanicals and reevaluate the conclusions through a recently formed ad hoc advisory panel of botanical experts. The panel also will develop criteria to establish the safety and efficacy of botanicals to allow for uniformity in creating botanical monographs. USP has published standards for 12 dietary supplement ingredients including St. John's wort, saw palmetto and valerian, leaving nine ingredients on its short list that have yet to be the subject of monographs ("The Tan Sheet" Dec. 7, 1998, p. 20)
