Colgate-Palmolive is assignee of patent #5,843,409 for a "two-component dentifrice for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity." The patent, granted by the Patent & Trademark Office Dec. 1, is for a dual-compartment package, one side containing potassium nitrate and the other stannous fluoride, "the stannous fluoride being incompatible with the potassium nitrate," the patent says. Colgate does not currently market a sensitive teeth dentifrice
