This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

USP PANELS TAKE "CAUTIOUS" APPROACH TO DIETARY SUPPLEMENT safety and efficacy, Robert Vestal, MD, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Boise, Idaho, asserted at the recent U.S. Pharmacopeia's conference on dietary supplements in Los Angeles. Stating USP advisory panels have been criticized as "biased against dietary supplements," Vestal suggested "the word `cautious' may better describe the panels' viewpoint." Vestal chairs the USP Division of Information Development Executive Committee and the Geriatrics Advisory Panel.
