WIC REAUTHORIZATION TO REACH HOUSE FLOOR BEFORE JULY 4 RECESS under the current plan for HR 3874, the "WIC Reauthorization Amendments of 1998," which passed the House Committee on Education and the Workforce by a vote of 36-1 June 4. As reported out by the committee, HR 3874 has been merged with legislation reauthorizing other child nutrition programs, including the summer, after school and breakfast food programs. The bill would reauthorize the Women, Infants & Children federal assistance program, which provides infant formula and other food to needy children and mothers, through 2003. The Independence Day congressional recess is scheduled to begin in the House June 26.
