WEIDER PHENCAL INGREDIENT L-5-HYDROXYTRYPTOPHAN MAY NOT BE SAFE, FDA says in a Sept. 25 "courtesy letter" to the supplement marketer recently released by the agency. FDA has safety concerns regarding the ingredient L-5-hydroxytryptophan due to its association with L-tryptophan. "FDA cannot determine that oral dosage forms of L-tryptophan and related compounds such as L-5-hydroxytryptophan can be safely used," the courtesy letter says.
