Issued by FDA March 10 advises the public not to "purchase or consume" a product known as Sleeping Buddha because it contains the unlabeled prescription drug ingredient estazolam, a benzodiazepine sedative. FDA notes estazolam may cause fetal damage if taken by pregnant women. Sleeping Buddha is being promoted for insomnia and restlessness, FDA says. The product's distributor, Burnaby, British Columbia-based Treasure Box Products, has begun a voluntary recall. Following a complaint from another manufacturer, Health Canada first initiated the recall with an announcement in December.
